2026/27 LAD

Youth Ballet Company

Mandatory Parent Meeting TBD at the Cate St Studio

Families interested in pre-pointe, pointe, Technique Company, Performance Company, or Competition Company should attend the Mandatory Parent Meeting. Auditions for the 2026/27 season will be during the main LAD Company Audition. All dancers invited into Youth Ballet must attend a ballet summer session to enroll in the 26/27 Youth Ballet Programs

Summer Sessions are an opportunity for dancers to enhance their technique in a small class setting by focusing on more advanced skills and learning ballet repertoire similar to what we will compete. This gives the dancers a chance to see if they enjoy the type of movement that we compete and allows the instructor to determine if your dancer is at the skill level necessary to perform or compete these dances.

Technique Company

Students will focus on advancing their technique through an exclusive 90 min ballet class. Small class sizes allow for more individualized attention for the students. The commitment for this program is attending the exclusive ballet technique class.

Performance Company

Students will focus on both advancing their technique through the exclusive YBC class and receive coaching on ballet performance pieces. The Performance Company will participate in community outreach events that are designed to boost onstage confidence. These performances are of no extra charge, within driving distances, single day events, and count towards service hours as your are volunteering for your community. Examples of these events includes visiting local nursing homes, libraries, museums, and festivals. This year the Performance Team will be given the opportunity to vote on which story ballet they want to learn Ex. The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid. Students will also be participating in "Parade Dances" and a special dance choreographed for the Baton Rouge Shakespearean Festival.

Requirements:

  • Attend Saturday Ballet Class for your level
  • Must attend at least 1 additional ballet class during the week
  • Attend the Performance Company rehearsal 30min-1.5hrs each week depending on choreography and upcoming performances.
  • Attend all community outreaches (Nursing Homes, Libraries Visits, Parades, and the Shakespearean Festival.

Competition Company

Students will continue to focus on both advancing their technique through the exclusive YBC class and coaching on ballet performance pieces. This group will compete at the Ballet Championships of America (Dallas) and have the opportunity to perform at additional events with the Performance Team.

Benefits of Competing Ballet:

  • Ballet dances require a large amount of technique, heavy movement. Weekly rehearsals that work to improve and expand upon these techniques will lead to an overall increase of the dancer’s skill levels in all other aspects of dance.
  • Dancers receive more individualized attention while working on the technique during their rehearsal and the teacher is able to help guide them to their goals with a more individualized approach due to the limited number of dancers in each rehearsal.
  • Competing these dances allows the dancers to perform a style that they usually only get to perform once a year (at recital). This additional opportunity allows those dancers to explore the complexities of ballet in a new setting and further enjoy the style

Each competition dance will be a similar time commitment to other comp dances at LAD

  • (1) 30 min rehearsal every week for each dance that they are participating in.
  • (1) 90 min Ballet Technique Class on Saturday mornings
  •  Compete at Ballet Championship of America Dates TBD
  • Dancers competing on pointe must be enrolled and actively attending Pointe Class.

Ballet competitions are vastly different from normal competitions/conventions and are a highly recommended addition for dancers who really enjoy ballet and a smaller, more mentorship based convention (with no early morning or super late nights).

We make an effort to schedule around pre-scheduled commitments that the dancers may have for both school and main LAD Company. Saturday morning classes and rehearsals may be moved to the earlier or later in the mornings, available Fridays or made-up over extended holidays to accommodate schedules at the discretion of the coach. For specific questions, please email Ms. Sara.

If your dancer is interested in joining the Ballet Competition Team, please talk with Ms. Sara. Any individual questions can be sent to Ms. Sara directly at sara@ladyouthballetco.com
